MediaTek is mostly known by its affordable chipsets, but the company has promised to join the high-end market, and compete with high-end Snapdragon chipsets. They are taking step by step, but it looks like they have something to challenge Qualcomm with.
The upcoming Helio X20 is expected to be one of the first mobile processors with 10 cores, but it won't be the only one. The company is already working the Helio X22, which should only be a higher clocked version of Helio X20, while the Helio X30 will bring significant improvements due to a different arrangement of processor cores.
The latter will also use ARM Mali-T880 graphics and will support up to 4 GB of RAM, and eMMC 5.1 storage. The X20 will have ARM Mali-T800 graphics, support for 4G LTE, 802.11ac WiFi, and an ARM Cortex- M4 co-processor for always-on speech recognition.
